Quex's review:

" ... wouldn't ya like to go, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came ..."

While short on smart alecky bartenders and know-it-all postal employees (unless you look hard enough in Crystal), Gateway continues to be the single friendliest MUD on the face of the planet after a full eleven years of existence.

I know this because I have played every other MUD in existence and have deemed them to be sub-par and lacking compared to the shiny goodness of Gateway. Honest.

Boasting a robust guild system and enough quests to make you say "sweet sassy molassy, that is a whole lot of f$%!ing quests", Gateway continues to surprise players young and old alike.

While RPing is not enforced, the room to develop your own unique character is boundless. Swashbuckling Vikings mingle with noble Knights, both masters of the blade. Devil Worshippers wage a dark and arcane war on the Priests of Cianna, who are protected by Magicks of Light. The Monks of Marik strive to hone their chi to unspeakable levels of power. The Celtic Druids of Gwydion strike a critical balance of good and evil on their quest to find The Way. Insidious Serpent Warriors slither across the lands, spreading their venom via fang and steel. The Rangers of Salairyk ... well, we are still trying to figure out what they are up to, but it involves green tights and doing it in the woods, apparently. And the irrepressable ShortBred Clan bring their own zest of life and faerie charms to help spread cheer and happiness (translation: annoying tricks) to each corner of the realms.

Maintained by a friendly (if not heavily medicated) assortment of wizards, Gateway has over 22,000 rooms of *unique* coding to baffle and mystify players who dare to cross over the thresholds of the six Domains.

Face death in the scorched dunes of the Haven Desert. Delve deep into the Drow City of Callis. Dare to face the dreaded Vicia-Heinox at the crux of Underground. Explore the wondrous cities of the Orient. Flit across the mountain faces of Crystal. Bask in the mediterranean delights that Shadow has to offer. And, above all else, visit SpineShire and buy a funny hat.

So if you are tired of playing MUDs filled with utter morons and chock full of stock coding, give us a whirl over here in the Gateway. Did I mention it's free? Because it is.

Hope to see you soon. On the MUD, I mean.

Bassy's review:

Peering out from behind the Oak tree, Lost Ranger Bassy looks at you. "Welcome!" He says. "welcome to one of the oldest muds out there, we've been around awhile, won't you stay and enjoy yourself?!"

"Gateway has something for almost everyone, we keep it simple for those who enjoy hack and slash and we offer some complexity for those who prefer to use their brains as well as brawn. I'm referring to our quest and exploration system of course."

Bassy pauses and pulls a bottle from his cloak, taking a swig he offers you a pull. "It's good stuff, brewed here in St. Camille. It'll help what ails you too. Or do you prefer a good tobac?"

"Come in and visit us, we like to believe that wwe are quite friendly and helpfull to all and especially to our newest members. Even in my mid-age, players still help me out. I still find Gateway a good place to come and kill time (and the occasional dragon, lol)."

Sitting down on a nearby stump Bassy unstrings his bow and relaxes, poking a stick into the creek, looking for the purple fish. "Our wizards are a friendly bunch too you know. They try to make time for us when they can, though they tend to be busy troubleshooting and the like. Come and share a jest with them, or cast a barb their way, they aspire to keep their wits sharp, not just their quills."

You look at Bassy and inquire, "What race are you?". He replies "Well now, I'm what you would call an Avatar, though in my humble beginnings I remember being a goblin. I've shared many an adventure with other races, elves, dwarves, pixies, gnomes and the like. After much adventuring and exploration though, I was raised to Avatar. Now I use my knowledge to mentor my young proteges."

"Well now, I'm off to my guild, I'm a ranger, why don't you join us. We help out everyone. Or maybe you strickly prefer the hack and slash? Join the vikings. Lol, or you prefer a little poison with that? Join the Serpent guild. You like to lead people into the light? Join the Priests. We have something for everyone."

Bassy stands up from the stump, promptly trips over his bow, falls face first into the creek and gets nibbled on by some friendly fish. "Gosh darned it!" he sputters. "Hope to see you soon friend, hope to see you soon!".
